Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)

PDT is a special treatment that combines a light-sensitive gel (such as Levulan) with Blu-U and other sources of light to shrink sebaceous glands and treat pre-cancerous cells. The gel accumulates in certain cells (i.e. bacteria, sebaceous glands, actinic keratosis) and once activated will destroy those cells.

Sun damage, fine lines, and blotchy pigmentation are also improved because of the positive effect of this treatment.

PDT treatment also has the unique ability to minimize pores and reduce oil glands. This effectively treats stubborn acne vulgaris, rosacea, and may improve the appearance of some acne scars.

Photodynamic therapy is recommended in:

• Removing pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratosis)
• Treating moderate to severe cystic acne
• Treating rosacea
• Improving skin texture and pigmentation
